Chimney Caps: Safeguarding Your Chimney and Home
Chimney caps might seem like a small detail, but their significance is immense. These protective covers serve as your chimney's first line of defense against a range of potential issues. By keeping rain, snow, debris, and animals out, chimney caps prevent moisture-related damage, clogs, and even critters making your chimney their home.
On the other hand, tuckpointing plays a pivotal role in maintaining a structurally sound chimney. Over time, the mortar holding the bricks together can deteriorate due to weather, age, and wear. Tuckpointing involves carefully replacing damaged mortar with fresh material, restoring the integrity of your chimney's structure. This not only enhances its longevity but also prevents water infiltration, preserving the interior and exterior of your chimney and the surrounding masonry.
In essence, chimney caps and proper tuckpointing complement each other in fortifying your chimney's functionality and longevity. Together, they ensure your chimney remains a reliable and safe asset, serving your home for years to come.

A cap is a cover that helps keep rain, snow, leaves, and animals out of the flue while allowing smoke to vent. It’s your first line of defense against moisture and debris entering the chimney.
Signs include visible rust or loose fasteners, a missing lid or screen, water staining around the firebox, or animal activity at the top of the chimney. If you see a crack in the crown or deteriorated mortar, address that too so the new cap seals correctly.
It depends on your flue(s) and crown. Single-flue chimneys often use standard caps; multi-flue or odd-sized crowns usually need a custom cap sized to your chimney footprint. We’ll measure on site and recommend the right fit.
